Jackson has pancreatitis. It's super common in Yorkies but it is not something I'd wish on any dog. In September 2018, he had his worst attack yet. It was scary (you can read more about it here: ) but it took a lot of experimenting to find what works for his belly. He also has food sensitivities possibly related to IBD.
We had settled on Royal Canin PW Moderate Calorie kibble. It's low fat (necessary for the pancreatitis), grain-free (necessary for his special needs) and fish and potato based which he's always done well on. It is a prescription food and it's on the pricey side but he finds it, overall, palatable and his belly (usually) agrees with it. But he started becoming somewhat sensitive to kibble - seemed he wasn't digesting it as well as he used to.
It's fairly common for dogs with pancreatitis other stomach issues to actually digest canned/wet food better. We settled on Weruva. The food is produced in a human-grade facility and it honestly looks like what is on the can! Many of the formulas resemble chicken noodle soup. It's very easy to mix in with the dry food and I've seen even the pickiest of dogs gobble it up. Another feature I really like is that their website offers you full nutritional analysis like I've never seen before. With canned food, it's very important for dogs sensitive to consuming high fat to convert on a dry matter basis. Weruva does this for you and is always happy to answer any specific questions. The few formulas that Jackson does well on are Cirque de le Mer (tuna based), Grandma's Chicken Soup and Jammin' Salmon.
"Our ingredients maintain a natural look and recognizable texture which allows the pet owner to see and understand the ingredients…so what you see is what you get!" per the Weruva website.
